Gibbons wins Conference Championship and moves on to Regionals

CRUSADERS WIN PROGRAM'S FIRST STATE CHAMPIONSHIP 2008

Cardinal Gibbons edged defending champion Ledford 597-598 to win the 2008 NCHSAA 2A state title in Pinehurst on Tuesday (5/13/08).  The Crusaders held a 302-305 lead over Ledford and West Henderson after Monday's first round.  Ryan Lavelle posted consecutive rounds of 70 (one under par) to claim indivdual medalist honors by four strokes.  Lavelle posted a remarkable 33 on the final nine holes to help lead Gibbons to the title.  Clarke Cockman finished in 6th place with a two-round total of 149 (77-72) and Christopher House ended Tuesday tied for 7th with a 36-hole total of 151 (77-74).  Cardinal Gibbons has won three straight Mid-State 1A/2A conference titles and three consecutive regional championships.  The Crusaders were state runners-up in 2005 and 2006.

Current physicals are required in order to try out. All players must bring a copy of a current physical to tryouts on the first day
