Catholic Schools Week |
The main part of our celebration of Catholic Schools Week, January 31st – February 5th , is the all-school liturgy scheduled for this Thursday, January 28th.
The theme for this year as chosen by the National Catholic Educational Association is “Catholic Schools-Dividends for Life.” The basic idea behind this theme is that a student’s Catholic School education pays off for life. What we teach them, the faith we pass on to them, along with the values and morals that they learn here will hopefully have a lasting impact on our students long after they have graduated. A 2008 Gibbons graduate will be speaking at the mass and sharing how her CGHS education continues to pay off in her life now.
Next week, during the daily morning prayer we will highlight one of the five areas of our Catholic Identity. We will also have posters in the locker bays emphasizing these areas. In addition a Faculty and Staff Retreat day is slated for February 3rd. The retreat day will focus on the Spirituality of the Catholic Educator. The day is designed to give the Faculty/Staff a chance to come together, away from campus, for a day of renewal, reflection, prayer and discussion. Fr. Barry Strong, O.S.F.S., will be the retreat master. For more information, please contact Fr. Scott at ext 219.

Haiti Relief |
We have all witnessed the immense destruction that has taken place this week in Haiti due to the earthquake. The people of Haiti are desperate right now for the basic necessities of life. Many people have asked how we in the Gibbons community can help the people of Haiti. Here is our plan:
On Tuesday and Wednesday of next week the swim team will be leading our efforts to collect finds for the Haitian people. Collections will take place in the cafeteria and the main lobby during the lunch periods. The collected funds will be sent to the Diocese of Raleigh to be included with funds from collections taking place in parishes across the diocese this weekend for humanitarian aid. These funds will in turn be sent to Catholic Relief Services for immediate aid in Haiti. Checks can be made payable to CGHS.
Please contact Fr. Scott or Sr. Laura with any questions.
